In 2009, I was commissioned by United Airlines to photograph a story about sunken Guggenheim treasure in the New York Harbor for their in-flight magazine United Hemispheres. I accompanied a treasure hunting team to Arthur Kill, the commercial waterway separating Staten Island and New Jersey where, over 100 years ago, a fortune of silver went down. According to the treasure hunters from Aqua Survey, $26 million of the silver is still there, and they intend to find it.
