George Floyd Protests

As noted in an earlier blog post, I took the photo below with my pinhole camera at the 2014 Climate March in NYC. It was not, at the time, a photo about race, but the image has always felt like it speaks to what any fight with power is up against. No wonder we have a story about David and Goliath. It is a real fight, regardless of whether it’s between people or between people and systems or institutions.

But by definition change happens, and at least in regards to race I do believe the arc leans towards respect, equality, and justice. People of color in this country have always been and are still experiencing injustice and systemic oppression, but I am enormously heartened by how many Americans — especially young people, but even police officers and conservatives — are on the streets this weekend demanding justice and equality.
